Workplace Safety Risk Management
The process of risk management includes identification of hazards, defined as anything with the potential to cause harm; And to assess and rate the consequence, likelihood, and urgency of each identified hazard.
This forms the basis of your risk register and as with all safety systems, requires ongoing review, as there are no time restraints on a team member identifying risk in your workplace.
A risk register is a safety management tool, required to record risks identified, and provide an assessment of their risk rating, or likelihood and severity. The risk register is considered a live document, as it supports the ongoing management, through mitigation and monitoring risks, and as such should be visible to your team.
Triggers that require a risk assessment to be completed include:
- Following a workplace incident
- Introduction of new plant or process.
The process for Safety Risk Assessments:
We follow four key steps when assessing risk through:
- Identification – generally through inspections and risk assessments
- Assessment – risk ratings evaluated to scale: Likelihood Vs. Consequence
- Control – implementing controls to eliminate or minimise risk
- Review – monitor controls for effective risk reduction, ensure new risks are not created
Risk assessments are conducted with team members, and with our guidance maintain a practical approach when considering hazards and their level of seriousness.
Some hazards may have an immediate solution, some may be sporadic, some may be on-going.We rate these hazards based on greatest potential to cause risk and prioritise them in order to be addressed.
Following the completion of risk assessments you will be provided with a detailed photographic report. A picture is worth a thousand words, so you can use the photos and images to communicate our reported findings. **
Within the photographic reports, we identify concerns, rate risks, and make and rate recommendations to mitigate risks.
** Any high risk activities observed during any audit or inspection are addressed immediately.
